Porn refers to in pictures, writing, film or virtual reality the explicit depiction of sexual subjects or activity in a manner intended to arouse. Certain sections of society deem pornography to be obscene. The word ‘porn’ stems from the Ancient Greek word ‘pornographos‘; the depiction of prostitutes and ‘porneion’; a brothel. I have often thought porn to be an outdated word both due to its stigma and etymology. A sex tape depicting sexual activity neither in a brothel, or using prostitutes is not obscene but a piece of art. Therefore I propose a new word to help clear the air and improve the quality of sex depicted in art. The word is ‘sexart’.
